FREE Federal Tax Return and State Tax Return Preparation Services

The Alleghany County Commissioner of the Revenue’s office is an official VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site for qualifying filers. For tax year 2020, if your total household income is $57,000 or less, you may qualify for free federal income tax preparation, including free e-file. We begin filing February 12; you may call us for an appointment.

Staff in the Commissioner’s office will assist you in filling out your individual state tax return. There is no charge for this service. All that you have to do is bring in a complete copy of your federal tax return along with all income statements (W-2’s, 1099’s, etc.). See website for more information.
