BackPack Beginnings

BackPack Beginnings Clothing Program was created in response to ongoing requests from social workers in need of appropriate clothing for the children they serve. We provide free clothing to children ages 0-17 in Guilford County and stock our Family Market with gently used and new clothing items such as pants/shorts, shirts, sweaters, coats, dresses, undergarments and shoes. Our SMOD (Standard Mode of Dress/school uniforms) includes pants/shorts, shirts, jumpers and dresses. BackPack Beginnings also provide the following Programs: Comfort Back Packs offers care, comfort and basic necessities for children during traumatic situations. We provide age and gender specific backpacks full of comfort items such as blankets, stuffed animals, books, toys, socks, hygiene products, school supplies to abused/neglected, homeless, foster, and refugee children. The Personal Care Program provides hygiene items, including period products to local children. We know that not having food, clean clothes, or basic hygiene items obstructs children’s ability to learn and thrive. These children feel like outsiders and withdraw socially. They are expensive and buying them can shift money away from other important purchases like food and transportation. In addition, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits do not cover these products. distributes tens of thousands of free books throughout our community and Family Market. Book Beginnings Program distributes tens of thousands of free books throughout our community and Family Market. The goals of the program include book OWNERSHIP and book ABUNDANCE. Baby Basics Program provides Baby accessories and equipment are costly to families yet important to a baby’s health. ZERO federal social programs address diaper needs. We distribute diapers, wipes, developmental toys, baby accessories and baby equipment to local families.
